The Georgian Marine Fishing Cluster aims to unite the companies operating in marine fishing in the city of Poti, deepening ties between the cluster members and unit energy toward solving common problems.
A meeting of cluster members was held on November 15, 2022 to discuss the problems in the fishing sector.
The meeting discussed such important issues as:
- Subsidy in addition to the existing quota for ships owned by Georgian companies.
- Distribution of the 12% quota share to the current so-called on-ticketed ships. We are working together on the draft of the relevant change and submitting it to the National Environment Agency.
- Increasing the speed limit for the movement of ships in the closed area.
- Issuance of permit for demersal fishing with pelagic in the relevant area.
The participants of the meeting agreed to work to solve the mentioned issues step by step.
It was also noted that as a result of the cluster's joint efforts, the first tangible steps have already been taken, which resulted from active cooperation with the National Environment Agency, by initiating changes in the regulatory normative document of the sector.
Considering the relevant changes, Government Decree #1974 was issued on October 28, 2022.
With the joint efforts of the Georgian marine fishing cluster and Georgian companies, we will be able to strengthen, develop and expand the marine and fishing sector of Georgia. Utilization of new export markets and promotion of Georgian production.
